Focus on Why

We are at the half-way point of the incubation stage of the Poplabs program. The creative business founders that are part of Poplabs Cohort One, are continually asked to investigate their “Why”. That is, what motivates them to work in their respective area? What drives and inspires their actions? What gets them going on the path that they wish to create?

From authentic storytelling to unmaking prejudice through entertainment, the founders each week share deeper layers behind the passion that drives them to invest their time, resources and energy into the vision they're hoping to achieve.

Last week, the founders were presented with practical tools and frameworks to help them further shape their business model and their brand values. Some of the thinking included ‘staying true to your brand with rising competition’, ‘addressing shifts in global economies and trends’ and ‘daring to answer the hard questions for the consumers’. Founders were encouraged to think of their brand as introducing a new category to the world and to be the best at what they do.

The discussion then led to the power of vulnerability. The importance of truth, hard work and authenticity in shaping one’s practice as a brave leader and the work involved in directing that path with conviction. The power of focus was highlighted as a way to maintain attention to the work but at the same time the session normalised the experience of failing and standing your ground.

Looking back, it's certain that the founders have evolved from when we first met them. Their business identity and positions have grown stronger, moulded by the feedback they have been given.

We’re excited to have you on the journey with us - stay tune for more.
